For us moms of littles, a daily workout routine can seem completely impossible. In the midst of dinners, dishes, laundry, temper tantrums, and snuggles, it is hard to see where health and fitness can fit into mom-life and it is easy for the excuses to creep up. Instead of beating ourselves up about our struggles or letting our excuses take over, we can set ourselves up for success with tools to make overcoming our excuses easier.
Using Beachbody on Demand (BOD) and joining an accountability group of other moms successfully getting workouts I is what finally gave me the ability to ditch my go-to excuses and add a daily workout to my routine. I know that you may have run into these very same excuses, so I want to share with you how using Beachbody on Demand workouts helped me to overcome them.
Excuse: “I don’t have time to workout.”
I guaranty that you have said this one before, too. Finding time for exercise when you are working on building a career, business, family, and home is tough. Before I started using Beachbody on Demand, this was my primary excuse. With a full-time job, two little girls, and a house to maintain, I struggled to make time for my goals.
What I really love about Beachbody on Demand, is that most of the workouts can be completed in 30 minutes or less. The programs are designed to provide great results without a huge time commitment. The trainers really do focus on efficiency so that your time is never a waste with these workouts.
Also, the flexibility and convenience of BOD makes it easy to get a workout in because you can do it anywhere and at any time! It is much easier to fit a workout into your day when you don’t have to worry about childcare, making a scheduled class or traveling to a gym. My workout time is 5:30 am, while the kids are still asleep, but I can always workout during naptime or with them right there in the room if I need to.
Excuse: “I can’t afford a gym membership.”
As a mom with big financial goals, I can totally relate to the feeling that spending money on your fitness feels frivolous. I would tell myself that if I would just buckle down, stick to a diet, and go running every day, that I wouldn’t need to spend money on a gym membership or fitness products. However, to make your health a priority, it is so important to find a program that you really enjoy and can stick to! Also, the best physical fitness results come from challenging your body in a variety of ways – doing the same old cardio workout day after day is not going to cut it. If a small financial investment is required for a solution that really works for you, it is so worth it!
When you find yourself thinking that an investment in your health seems too high, compare the cost of fitness to the cost of your drinking, eating out, or shopping habits. I struggled with spending $100 per year on my own fitness goals but would spend that much going out to eat in one month! Looking at the cost from that perspective showed me that I was just using my finances as an excuse. Put your money where it matters most!
For me, Beachbody on Demand has been a super effective and affordable option compared to the cost of most gyms and personal trainers. An annual Beachbody on Demand membership is $99, and you can get into many challenge packs (which include Shakeology and program materials - depending on the program that you choose) for less than $175. Most of the workouts can be done anywhere and with minimal equipment (usually just a couple of dumbbells!) so you do not need to invest in a home gym either.
You are worth the investment in your own health and happiness! If you have mom-guilt over this, know that many of us have found that we are BETTER moms when we invest in ourselves. Your entire family will benefit from your investment in your health!
And if you still do not feel you have $99 per year to spend on your own fitness, set out to make that money in extra income! Declutter and sell items that you do not need or start a side gig to cover the cost of your workouts.
Excuse: “I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Mom-guilt makes it hard enough for us to allocate our time and money to our own health and fitness; we want to make sure those resources are not going to waste. I have tried so many Pinterest workouts, only to give up because I didn’t feel like I was doing any good. With the little time and energy that I have available for exercise, I cannot waste it on ineffective workouts or putting a ton of time into planning what my workouts will consist of.
With Beachbody on Demand, I put zero thought into my workouts. All I have to do is pick a program that sounds fun, show up each day and hit “play” on the next workout.
The programs are designed and provided by professional trainers who instruct you through each move of every workout. They provide tips on form and tell you what to feel for in your body so that you know you are performing each move correctly. The casts of the workout videos include modifiers and intensifiers as well, so you will be provided with options for making the workout program best fit your current fitness level. The Beachbody on Demand programs are crazy effective at any fitness level and always feel like a solid investment in myself. I know that I can trust each program to provide great results.
Also, the BOD membership includes access to a coach (like me 😊) and our accountability groups, which provide support the entire way! It is helpful to connect with other moms and to share ideas about what has worked well for us.
Excuse: “I just can’t get motivated.”
If you are feeling run down with work and mom-life, you probably do not feel the energy or motivation needed to get a workout in. Focus on the reasons that you need exercise and find a solution that makes establishing the habit of exercise easier to fit into your life. A solid routine is so much more powerful than motivation. Feeling motivated comes and goes for all of us – you are not alone for not feeling motivated to workout every day.
To establish the exercise habit and overcome the lack of energy and motivation, it is so important to find healthy habits that you enjoy. The best workout program is the one that fits into your lifestyle and the best diet is the one that you can stick to! There is no magic product that will accomplish your fitness goals for you. It is all about consistency and showing up on a regular basis for yourself. To make this possible, it needs to be fun!
Beachbody on Demand offers more than 40 programs with over 700 individual workouts, making it easy to find something that you enjoy. From dancing workouts like Country Heat, to flexibility training in PiYo, to strength training with LIIFT4, to hard core cardio workouts with Insanity, as well as programs that mix it up each day, like Morning Meltdown 100, you will find a program that fits your fitness level and that you honestly enjoy doing. Also, participating in the challenge groups and having a community to support you makes the process so much more enjoyable.
